Also, I interpret this to be metaphorical for the media distracting interested and questioning youth and individuals using technology and "the next big thing". For example, look at when someone said "an old man died!", but the clock cut him off and instead occupied him with technology.

The powers that be try to stifle free thought by talking about how there's "a time for mucking about", and by punishing philosophical thought ("Perhaps time is just a concept of human thought?" followed by the clock silencing all of them).

Man I love analyzing.
