To be fair, the blue sky is explained by Rayleigh Scattering which you don't really get into beyond a simple dictionary definition until you get into a 400ish college level quantum physics class, when you can start applying some math.

And even then, it doesn't fully explain why the sky is blue instead of violet, since violet (which in this case technically isn't purple, it's the Newton-times centuries ago definition of violet which was a dark blue) which has the shortest wavelength of the visible spectrum, hence Roy. G Biv.)

Well, it might explain it; it's so complicated once you get into the nitty gritty that I may have forgotten something.
