i think that MLP fandom has reached an odd status of a religion...

think about it.
Bronies have all the features to make it all into a religion…

It's a new way of life and strict code to follow
they are always trying to convert others and show them the light
they have a community and sites in which they practice their religion togather.

and on the other hand some people have an irrational hatred towards it
people have an urge to troll and insult the believers
the simplest mention of the subject will cause a HUGE debate.

see? both MLP fandom and various religions have the same features!
something big is cooking up?
2012??

There is a difference between religion and culture.

What would make MLP a religion is if the creator actualy professed herself as a prophet, or if one of the characters in the show demanded to be worshipped. People could also choose to worship said character without prompting, but then it is more of a cult following than a religion.

As much as I'm still hating the Pony fandom, I'm going to disagree with you there. There are certainly religions that started without an individual that demanded worship. Buddhism and Scientology come to mind in particular.

And really, the only difference between a "cult" and a "religion" is which of those two labels society has decided to brand it with.

True, but does MLP have a mandate or doctrine to follow? According to Wikipedia's definition, you need a collection of "spirituality and moral values" connected to the idol in question in order for it to be a religion, most commonly in book form (such as the Qur'an).

In any case, I don't see it as a religion unless the fans of the show actually come out and state that they are of an MLP religion.

Well, I don't know much about MLP (other than that it has recently managed to become more annoying than desu spamming) so I couldn't personally say. I'm just saying that I don't think lack of an identifiable prophet or personal deity doesn't in my mind disqualify it for religious status.

Did you quote the wrong comment Pond? Because what we have here looks a heck of a lot like a Non Sequitur.

DrPepperfan, that was one of the better things I have seen over the past week.

I don't really view it as a religion, and this is a personal opinion or whatever you'd prefer to call it as long as it's in line with my intent, for a few reasons. One is the lack of any established system of belief; most religions, both ancient and contemporary, are a group of people who share a belief and celebrate it through shared rituals, ceremonies, or rites. The only such thing currently existing that pertains to MLP is Derpy day, but you might as well argue eco friendliness is a religion because of arbor day. Most religions are composed of people who consider themselves a part of said religions. The majority of MLP fans don't consider themselves a part of a religion. Therefore, and I hope you see where this is going or you may just be deeply deeply stupid, MLP still isn't a religion. I do not deny that it could one day be a religion, but potential and reality are very clearly separate.

oh but bronies to have "spirituality and moral values" with the sharing kindness, love and tolorance

you people are still not discussing that the negative response this fandom is getting from some people is very similar to the negative response that religions get when they are mentioned…

Well yes, that's true, like how mentioning it starts arguments.

because normal man would play with silly plastic toys, because come on, no matter how good the show is THEY ARE TOYS!

and even more solid evidence: http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/06/ponychan-brony-changes-his-legal-name.html

this game changed his legal name to rainbow alexi dash. do i need to say more??

I'm sorry but this is one of the most disturbing things I've ever read in a long time. If you like something so much you're willing to do something this extreme, you need psychological help.
