Hmm, 1,665 retweets at the time I checked. I say wait and see. If it really takes off on social media, it will get an entry.
There is an entire section (meme research) of the forums dedicated to "should this get a page?/Is this a meme" which I predict this will get moved to.
Although, seeing how this is turning into a controversy, I suspect Don is already making the page.
At least it was actually a (critically) endangered animal this time. It's be nice if they could actually focus the attention on the fact it's critically endangered and donate to help the cause, but I'm sure everyone will instead tweet about how outraged they are at the irresponsible parents and create yet more useless hashtags that will be forgotten in two weeks.

This is on fiiiiiiire across the world, I am actually surprised the entry isn't the first thing they did in the office this morning.

That's what zoo fees are. They literally jumped the gun and murdered the best source of income for the species. He was a hand-raised gorilla (and he'd only been at that zoo for a year), they didn't even try to coax him away with fruit in the ten minutes before the shotgun arrived on scene, which is the most common tactic to get an unwanted item from an animal in captivity. Didn't try to calm the crowd either, whose frantic screams are the reason he dragged the kid across the enclosure.
Kid should have been on a leash, those things were all the rage in the 80s, why exactly did we decide that was socially unacceptable??
Called it
Some people around the interwebs were asking the simple question "why did they not use a tranquilizer gun?" And the simple answer is "tranquilizers take a while to take effect depending on size and metabolism, and using the tranquilizer may have worsened the situation (read: death of child) where the gorilla would get more aggressive or less aware of surroundings."

I know someone who still uses a child leash. And for good reason. His kid literally tried running into the street about 4 times trying to chase cars he like.
I feel like shooting Harambe right off the bat was an overreaction. They should've tried other things beforehand.

Such as? I read they called all the gorillas to leave the enclosure and go indoors. Two other gorillas heeded the call but Harambe did not.

Fruit bait & switch. All that ^ means is that his curiosity was more compelling than a whistle.
Was his curiosity more compelling than a pineapple or watermelon? Guess we'll never know.
The zoo also failed to back the rapidly forming crowd away from the enclosure, they were screaming in horror at Harambe, they could have very easily led to the child's death before the dangerous animal team arrived. He might not have felt the need to move the kid across his enclosure, away from the commotion, if they had been quiet and out of view. That action is what led the DAT to shoot on sight.
The mother is ultimately to blame but the zoo fucked up the response.
Those shitty parents should have some sort of punishment, but if that were to happen, how much you wanna bet they'll turn this into a race issue…?
