Proposal for new idea?

We should add a catalogue page for memes that have multiple sub-entries. This will allow users to browse memes/images/videos much more efficiently and effectively.

An example would be like:

Catalogue page > Pepe the Frog > Pepe the Frog meme related entries

To make it even more efficient. Memes/images/videos are tagged (e.g. NSFW, Event, Subculture, etc.) to make searching easier by clicking on the tag which loads memes/images/videos associated with the specific tag that was clicked on.

Any new ideas that you might want to contribute to make the database more user-friendly for the users?

yeah kinda like the one you just made

Mate, I think you have a case of mistaken identity. I only have only one Imgur alt-account which is Paragothian9. I don't know this random Imgur user HalalShitPack at all nor have any connections with that person. Also that user is a pom, not an aussie like me mate. I don't know why you claim me as this random stranger from the internet, but you got the wrong person.

Alright ladies, let's stick to the topic ok. I don't care about anyone's Imgur or internet stalk techniques here, same for most sane people.

I like the idea, but I'm questioning the execution.

For starters, our categories are, at the moment of typing this post, 190 (secret mod stats yo). This is the Activism category (we call them types, but the function remains the same).

That is one of the bigger ones, and perfect to put in that list idea you're promoting, like Gaming which you promoted. But amongst those 190, plently exist with a handful of small entries at most.

So the idea would best function if we split up categories in small and fucking huge, unless you want a drop down list of 200 categories. There were plans for reorganising the Types already, as staff likes to stick to general as fuck categories while mods prefer specific categories.

Yeah, the execution is the difficult thing to deal with right now. I do agree with your idea into splitting up categories from small to large. But there such be a minimum number limit for sub-memes in a meme entries to be implemented in the category list. For example, you have a meme entry that has a niche number of five sub-memes, it should not be included in the catergory list. But if there are a meme entry has a large number of at least 20 or more sub-memes, then it should be included in the catergory list.

I also noticed in the your link that the searched items are not sorted from 'A to #'. All the searched items are in a mess. As you can see when you click into the Confirmed Memes page, all the confirmed memes are not sorted from memes that start from 'A to #' and so on forth. It would be best if the website that allows users to sort and search items from a 'A to #' list.

Also in the image I posted, you can see the NSFW tag with a blue border around – this means it was clicked. For example, as this tag was clicked, it only searches for Gaming memes that have the NSFW tag. If you clicked on the Subculture tag and not clicked the NSFW tag, the website will search for Gaming memes that have the NSFW and Subculture tags. Finally if you clicked on the Subculture tag again, it will deselect it and the website will only search for Gaming memes with NSFW tags. This would greatly benefit the users in efficiently searching for memes without having the struggle to keep individually search each page for their specific meme.

But for course as you said in your last paragraph, these ideas might not be implemented as the staff likes to stick to general categories rather than the specific catergories that you mods like.

The default for the Confirmed/Submission sections is newest first, meaning the entries which were created the most recent and the ones which were confirmed the most recent. If we confirm a submission, it gets first place in the confirmed category. The link for the type I shared goes by most views (as shown in the url), which is the default for types. Search order can be altered, our protip section gives tips on that.

But wow, amazing how I never noticed that we don't have an alphabetical order. You can place them by newest/oldest, most/least favourites/views, and chronological creation date of the meme (not the entry). But alphabetical is merely an aesthetic issue, so something the coder should be able to add in a couple of minutes, so that ain't an issue.

The difference between mods and staff can be resolved by splitting them up in Categories and Types. Category for broad, Terms for smol. But we already confirmed that.

And to go back real quickly to things like Pepe you mentioned in your OP post, Pepe wouldn't fit in type and category. It's too small, so all pepe meme entries can just stay below the Pepe the Frog parent entry. We can then instead make a type or category of 4chan memes, throw pepes in there, and allow users to dig further if they are interested.
