I may be able to add to Wallace and Gromit regarding the duo's origins and films being a fan of them. As for the popularity surrounding Wensleydale, not so much.

I haven't had time as I'd liked today but I've laid out, or listed, the major known releases of Wallace and Gromit. Also, I'd suggest for the Wallace and Gromit page to be classed as a Subculture instead.
