I'm sure that a good number of you have probably heard of the magic behind 11:11… make a wish at that time and it is guaranteed to come true. However, is it a meme? For several people, their first exposure to it was the internet. I first heard of it on Gaia Online, as did several of my friends. Other people I have talked to in real life heard about it through My Life is Average or tumblr. Because of this, not many people even know why it grants wishes. However, its roots come from the idea of synchronicity, as explained through numerology.

Did the internet change 11:11 and expose it to the world? And if so, is it a meme?

I wouldn't call this an Internet meme but more of an IRL trivia.
I've always been told that, if you look at your clock/watch and you stumble upon a double (not necessarily 11:11 but also 22:22 or 13:13), you would have to make a wish, the same way you would do when you see a shooting star.

But I must admit I have no clue where that myth comes from.
Anyway, I'm sure it doesn't come from the Internet.

In regards to Tomberry:
I have never heard of that rule before… and I've only ever heard of it when it comes to 11:11. Look at it this way: I've never seen anyone on the internet make that big a deal out of a day like 10/10/10 or 01/01/01 or 04/04/04… but bring up how 11/11/11 is this year and you've got a thread full of people waiting in anticipation.

In regards to Christopher the Phip Abra:
This is what I'm talking about. It's caught on online. This is why I'm conflicted over this. Did the internet play a big role in spreading it?

I know of course you kids won't remember this since it was before your time, but there were a lot of people going crazy about 8/8/88.

You forgot to say "GET"- the 11th post on a thread called 11:11

There is no post counter so doing so would have seemed rather pointless.
