Songs or musicians you discovered thanks to movies/TV/Video Games/etc

Back around 2004 or so I remember Nickelodeon occasionally did their "coming up next" bumpers at the end of shows (you know when they scrunch the credits of the show just ending to only a small part of the screen) by playing clips of the next show with random music playing over the footage. The songs had pretty much nothing to do with the show in question, it was probably just a case of "the editor wanted to put whatever was on his mix CD into the bumper." But still it was through this I discovered the song "Take Me Away" by 4 Strings, as it played during a "coming up next" bumper for Jimmy Neutron. Given this was during the era I was just getting into techno and trance thanks to Dance Dance Revolution the song really stuck with me and it's pretty nostalgic.

Thanks to the Tony Hawk series I discovered bands like Goldfinger and Powerman 5000 and got really into their iconic songs from said games like Superman and When World's Collide (I also credit Tony Hawk's Pro Skater with giving me a liking towards ska punk and skate punk).

Also this is a bit of a different one: it was thanks to this video:

That I found this song by Mudvayne (I knew about Mudvayne before, but oddly never heard this song until that video):

There was plenty of Rob Zombie material in Twisted Metal III and IV. In the meantime, Twisted Metal Black had The Rolling Stones. In both cases, I was pretty much introduced for the first time to their songs.

Prince of Persia (specifically The Warrior Within) introduced me to Godsmack while Dead Rising 2 did the same with Celldweller.

Of course I can't forget MGSV: The Phantom Pain and Death Stranding which made me discover Garbage, Mike Oldfield, New Order and Low Roar.

As for films, turns out that Dawn of the Dead and Watchmen were heavily involved in the discovery of Jhonny Cash, Bob Dylan, Nat King Cole, Simon & Garfunkel, Jimi Hendrix and The Smashing Pumpkins (I literally had no idea who these were until I watched the films).

Fallout New Vegas led to my discovery of Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and Nat King Cole. Fallout 3 introduced me to the Ink Spots, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and The Andrews Sisters (Bioshock only increased my interest in the three as well).

Speaking of Bioshock, I would always remember it as the game that had Django Reinhardt music in every damn level.

As for Metal, Guitar Hero (3 onward) introduced me to Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth (Off topic, am I the only one to think of these three only when hearing about "The Big 4". Yeah, I know Anthrax is meant to be included. However, I knew the other three for years…I didn't know who Anthrax was until recently), Iron Maiden, S.O.A.D, and of course DragonForce.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II (though I'm certain that one of their songs appeared in the first game as well) had Avenged Sevenfold in its Ending as well as having one of their tracks play on a zombies map as an easter egg.

Guilty Gear Introduced me to Venom, Testament, and Helloween…but not in the way you would think. Unlike the other games I meantioned. GG doesn't have any music from the artists. You see, the game has characters (and some of their attacks) named after Metal and Hard Rock musicians/bands and songs. I found nearly all the references on a Wiki and said to myself "Well shit, these bands must be good if someone was willing to name there characters after them."…they are. I can't believe it took me 5 years to figure out Slayer was named after the band.

I discovered Tears for Fears from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The New Wave radio station had this song of theirs that sounded very different on the PS2 due to the crappy audio:

Regardless, I liked it anyway and discovered a lot of their songs I enjoy.

This is going to sound extraordinarily stupid, but I got into Panic at the Disco when my high school put on a skit show and one of the acts was a choreographed dance to "9 in the Afternoon". After I searched up the song I listened to the entire album.

For Florence + the Machine it was when they did a performance during the Colbert Report, and now they're my favorite music group. Go listen to the songs she did for Final Fantasy XV, they're amazing

I also really like this piano cover of "Where is my Mind" which was played in an indie movie called It's Kind of a Funny Story

The Fallout games definitely got me into some great songs like "Big Iron" and "Atom Bomb Baby"

Discovered Huey Lewis & the News through Back to the Future and memes

Also got introduced to The Sweet via movie trailers (Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy 2)

Samurai Champloo introduced me to the late great Nujabes, which made me realize how much I like hip-hop that isn't the stuff you hear on the American radio nowadays. This song in particular always relaxes me whenever I listen to it.

I don't even need to show WHAT bands appear. The amount of known AND unknown bands that play in this god tier soundtrack is unbeliaveable

Biggest example:

And the game is just as good
