Whether you think it's a cover that's just as good as the original or maybe even better, just post your favorite covers of pre-existing songs.

(Yeah a lot of people seem to forget this is a cover, it was originally made for a band called The Crickets back in the 60s)

(again a bunch of people forget this is a cover, it was originally done by Nine Inch Nails, though it should be noted that when Trent Reznor heard Cash's cover he said even he considers it better than the original, saying he now thinks of it more as Cash's song than his own)

This is the first version I ever heard to the song. I like how it seems to bring more power with the backup singers' harmonies and the instrumentations more than Marvin and Tammi did with theirs. I hate Diana Ross' version though, she completely butchered the song.

Here's a song you probably didn't know was a cover. It was originally performed by a little known grunge band called Ednaswap. Their version was much more slow and only sang the chorus twice.

Again, I heard this version before the original, and I just think Rod sings this better than John Fogerty did. Also again the instrumentations are more plentiful here.

I must apologize, but there is just so much that I want to share. As payment, I'll be sure to watch all the above.
(In my opinion, the purpose of a cover is not to recreate, but to reinvent and reimagine. The following all do a great job with that.)

King Crimson playing David Bowie's "Heroes"
In memoriam of Bowie, Robert Fripp being lead guitar in the original s/t LP played this song in encores touring with his band in 2016 and 2017.

Not to disrespect Bruce Springsteen, but goddamn RAGTM's cover version of "The Ghost of Tom Joad" is bretty gud:

The same I can say for Sepultura's version of "Orgamastron"
(RIP Lenny ;_;)

You don't need a bass/electric guitar to do "Orion":

Since someone mentioned Primus, I think I liked their rendition of "Have a Cigar":

From Shrek's soundtrack:

And last Nina Simone, specially her versions of "Stars" and "Here comes the sun", one is pretty heartbreaking and emotional, and other one did really a good job at adapting the Beatles's version:

This guy named HiDaTabs makes excellent covers for Arabic openings of anime. Some of them are even better than the originals. Here are some examples:
