Hello, people! I have a question regarding ze KYM structure of users.
Basically; is there any way to "set" your user title? For instance, I'm a "Gold Member", and I have seen people with traits such as "Pony Hater" or "Commentator". Does your activity affect this in any way?
I am aware that this question might have been answered gazillions of times, but please reply.

It all depends on what you've contributed. For example, I'm a 'Conversationalist' because I've had over 2,000 posts on the site.

That page didn't really answer my question. Look at this: James is labeled as "Nic Cage Fan & Pony Hater". I don't think posting a lot of comments/editing a lot affects this.
Some admin, moderators and even regular users have been given (or granted upon themselves) custom titles like that. James is the site developer so naturally he can get what he wants. You'll notice that quite a few moderators have them too.
They're pretty rarely given (especially to regular users) so I wouldn't try to set it as a goal. Any other questions?

Custom Titles: Custom Titles are the unique titles that some users have. These can only be handed out by the staff. Don’t start spamming them now, as custom titles are only given on special occasions. Custom Titles don’t say what an user’s moderator powers are, therefore they’re commonly placed behind the moderator status in case a mod has it.
I think that answers part of it. But in more detail, custom titles don't mean anything. Usually, the users with custom titles are moderators or administrators, but as RandomMan said, they have little to do with their powers.
They got those titles because the administrators either game them to them for some reasons outside of any specified activity or because they asked for it. Also like Random said, it's nothing you need to ask the moderators or administrators about.

You'll find that most users with custom titles have done a ton of work on the site. That is often why these users are moderators. But there is no set way that you can get them.
If you do a set list of things so many times, it is not certain (or even likely) that you'll get a custom title.
If you ask administrators to get a custom title, it is not certain (and most certainly not likely) that you'll get a custom title.

If you're just curious, then I think the simplest answer is "People asked for it" or "The administrators gave it to them for their work on the site."
If you're wanting one, then you're probably out of luck.
Politically, be charismatic, do a lot of good on the site, make a unique impression upon them, and bring it up after a few months or several months. That's probably what happened with most non-administrators (most admins can just ask or can just do it themselves.)
EDIT: Dang it, Cyber! Ugh.

No, thanks. That has answered enough.
