should be
data-num-posts='5'
The new Facebook comments layout is extremely tall whenever there are comment replies so that's why it's been changed from 2 comments to 1 comment by default.
so what?
the KYM comments are 50x times taller
Simple solution: Use the KYM comments.
You have an account now, why not just comment there instead?

Well, not everyone who reads the FB comments has a KYM account.

Because It links to my facebook page and get notifications there, plus the KYM comments get bloated with images
You can always add a max-height to the fb comments section.
face it, social commenting is on the rise its the future son

When browsing the mobile version, our regular comments aren't shown and you are only shown the Facebook comments. In that context, I would have no issue with expanding the Facebook comment box to 2 or 3 reply chains (3 has my vote, but I can settle with 2 as the middle ground).
In addition, like OP said, the regular comment section is many times taller even with this new Facebook comment box. If you want to save the space you lose by adding Facebook comments, you can probably sacrifce a couple of KYM comments per comment page.
Yes 3 sounds good.
FB comments are a gateway drug to KYM, cause a user comments then he gets likes or replies so he comes back and maybe comments another article, increasing views.
And for this to happen a user has to READ and react to a comment, this wont happen if the damn comments are hidden.

Viewing the comments takes literally one mouseclick, so you're overreacting a bit there when you say they're hidden.
By this day and age we should all know people are lazy, especially for interaction, it's the objective of UX to make things easy and obvious for the user
