About
TwitchCon Foam Pit refers to a series of memes that reference a hazardous foam pit at TwitchCon San Diego 2022, where streamer and pornographic actress Adriana Chechik broke her back after jumping into it. The incident was followed by online criticism directed at Twitch, as well as by jokes and memes on social media in October 2022.
Origin
On October 7th, 2022, TwitchCon 2022 started in San Diego.[1] On October 8th, 2022, streamer and pornographic actress Adriana Chechik jumped into a foam pit during a gladiator-style event, landing on an unpadded concrete floor covering the bottom of the pit. As a result of the fall, the streamer broke her back in two places. After the injury, Chechik was hospitalized and had to get a supporting meter rod installed.[2]
On October 9th, 2022, Twitter[3] user @ClippyChimp tweeted the video of the incident, with Twitter[4] user @JakeSucky sharing it. The video gained over 8.4 million views, 7,400 retweets and 122,300 likes in one day (shown below).

The news was followed by more reports of incidents at the foam pit. On October 9th, 2022, Twitter[5] user @Sw33tsTTV wrote that her friend @loch_vancess dislocated her knee at the pit (shown below, left). On October 9th, Twitter[6] user @Logiiiic_ tweeted a photograph of another streamer who allegedly also got hurt in it (shown below, right).
Spread
The news of the incidents spawned jokes and memes on social media in the following day, primarily on Twitter. For example, on October 9th, 2022, Twitter[7] user @Liv_Agar quipped about Twitch's streamer revenue policy, with the tweet gaining over 2,000 retweets and 64,400 likes (shown below, left). Later that day, Twitter[8] user @SavinTheBees posted an image caption meme referencing the incidents that gained over 5,000 retweets and 68,300 likes (shown below, right).
More memes about the event went viral on social media in the following hours. Multiple posts referenced the Dashcon ball pit, another infamous pit at a con.
Chechik's Recovery
Over the weekend of October 29th, Chechik returned to streaming and revealed scars from her multiple surgeries on her back. She could stand and walk, which was a positive development in her recovery. However, she also revealed that she was, unbeknownst to her, pregnant at the time of her fall. Her surgeries forced her to give up the pregnancy.
