About

Botox Face Filter refers to a series of TikTok videos in which people pretend they are applying botox injections, using a distorted facial harmony TikTok Filter to show how they look after the procedure. The trend also utilizes a piece of parody music called 'Disparada' or 'prepare seu coração', which is performed by Juliette, a Brazilian singer/celebrity.

Origin

This is a sub-trend that started with the performance of the song 'Disparada' by the Brazilian singer Juliette,[1] on August 24th, 2021 for the charity special program Criança Esperança.[2] After the presentation, some videos of the presentation were uploaded on social media to sites including Twitter,[3] TikTok[4] and Instagram.[5]

Several months later, on April 29th, 2022, a parody version of the song was uploaded by @anittahitt. The video reached 4 million views and the sound saw 13,000 videos uploaded on the platform in four months.

The trend began with lip-dubs of the audio done by teenagers and young adults. On May 13th, 2022, one of the first videos of the plastic surgery filter trend was posted by @laystonone_15. She and her friends recorded a video using a pen as a needle injection, pretending they were doing a botox injection on her face. At the end of the procure they used a "distorted facial harmony" TikTok[6] filter to show the horrendous results. The video got 1 million views in three months.

Spread

People then began to use the audio with the facial harmony filter on TikTok in the weeks after @laystonone_15's video. Another version was posted on April 23rd, 2022, and it was used as the main sound for the plastic surgery trend, reaching 67,000 videos uploaded on the platform in four months.

The trend soon expanded outside of Brazil and reached global TikTok users, such as @mapchl[7] (shown below, left) and @bayashi.tiktok[8] (shown below, right) .
