CG5, also known as Charlie Green, is an American musician, singer, TikToker and YouTuber most known for his meme-related songs and covers. CG5 grew a large following in 2023, mostly due to songs that referenced memes like Only In Ohio, Grimace Shake and Smurf Cat, among others like Sticking Out Your Gyat For the Rizzler. CG5 memes and discourse are mostly related to the perception that he ruins or kills meme trends. Many CG5 memes on TikTok also use a video of him singing the national anthem at a professional baseball game (MLB). Also, the Everybody Told Me That I Sound Like CG5 meme is based on him.

CG5's online presence started on October 26th, 2014, when he posted his first image to Instagram,[2] gaining over 170 likes in nine years. On August 14th, 2015, he uploaded his first-ever song to Soundcloud.[3] A few months later, on September 12th, 2015, he uploaded his first-ever YouTube[4] video which received roughly 139,100 views and 3,900 likes in eight years. On June 22nd, 2016, CG5 posted his first music video to YouTube[5] that featured himself, gaining roughly 43,800 views and 1,200 likes in seven years (shown below).



On August 19th, 2017, CG5 uploaded his most-viewed YouTube[6] video as of October 2023, an "FNAF 4 REMIX" of The Living Tombstone song "I Got No Time," gaining over 104 million views in six years (shown below).



On November 12th, 2018, CG5 uploaded his first-ever video to TikTok,[6] gaining over 32,300 plays and 3,400 likes in five years (shown below, left). Going into the 2020s, CG5's videos on TikTok amassed millions of plays, such as a TikTok[7] posted on June 27th, 2022, which gained over 10 million plays and 504,000 likes in one year (shown below, right).

CG5 Singing The National Anthem

On July 1st, 2022, CG5 posted a video to TikTok[8] that showed him singing the U.S. national anthem at a Chicago Cubs MLB game, gaining roughly 235,000 plays and 48,000 likes in one year (shown below, left). Going into 2023, the video of CG5 singing at the game was used for countless memes that mostly made fun of CG5's song. For instance, on July 12th, 2023, TikToker[9] @ratingyourtescomealdeals replaced the audio with CG5's "Only In Ohio" song, gaining roughly 1.3 million plays and 127,100 likes in three months (shown below, right).

CG5 Ruins Memes

CG5 Ruins Memes or CG5 Kills Memes refers to a series of memes and posts claiming that CG5 ruins or kills memes when he writes songs about them. CG5 is known to write songs about viral memes, with past examples including the Grimace Shake trend, Ohio memes and 1 2 Buckle My Shoe. The axiom and memes referencing it became popularized on TikTok starting around May 2023 and spread over the following months, also inspiring memes on Twitter / X.

Everybody Told Me That I Sound Like CG5, continued Probably Because I Am CG5, refers to a viral video and audio clip on TikTok posted by CG5 in which he sings, "Everybody told me that I sound like CG5, probably because I am CG5" to the beat of the song "Give a Little," produced by LeGrand and CG5. The video was posted to TikTok in late February 2023 after LeGrand posted a similar video recounting how people compare his voice to CG5's and became a viral original sound throughout February and March 2023 as a source for lip-dub videos in which TikTokers share what they're known for.
