About

Darling, Darling Twerk For Me refers to a dance trend on TikTok set to the song "Twerk" by City Girls.[1] Videos attached to the sound feature TikTokers doing a choreographed dance that involves swinging your arms rapidly in front of your body before turning sideways and twerking. The dance is often performed in a group, or in front of another person who doesn't know the choreography (such as a parent or spouse) with the intention of filming their reaction to the twerking.

Origin

Sometime prior to October of 2020 TikToker that_girl_slayed, whose account has since been deactivated, uploaded the original sound used in the trend. It's unknown whether this video is where the dance trend started, or simply the sound. On October 2nd, TikToker meganmahon47[2] uploaded one of the earliest versions of the trend, garnering over 36.5 million views and 3.3 million likes in 16 days.

Spread

The dance continued to spread across TikTok over the course of the month, with a number of notable TikTokers and influencers performing it. On October 6th, 2020, TikToker Charli D'amelio [3] performed the dance, garnering over 171 million views in 14 days. On October 10th, Addison Rae [4] performed the dance with two older relatives, garnering over 107 million views in 10 days.

Many of the videos end with the person witnessing the dance grabbing the TikToker once they begin to twerk. On October 15th, StayHipp[5] published an article detailing the dance. On October 20th, Republic World[6] also published a piece on it. As of the same date, that_girl_slayed's sound has been used in over 5.7 million videos.
