Overview

Lovers and Friends Festival is a music festival organized by Snoop Dogg and Coachella organizers, Goldenvoice which is due to be held in May 2020 in Los Angeles. Following the lineup release in February, a number of the artists listed denied being booked for the show and many Instagram and Twitter users compared the festival to Fyre Festival.

Background

On February 18th, 2020, Instagram account LoversandFriendsFest^[1]^[2] posted the lineup of musicians due to play with the caption, "Lovers & Friends Festival 💖 May 9 in Los Angeles Presale begins Thu, Feb 20th at 10am PT! Sign up now Payment plan available starting as low as $19.99 down💋' (shown below).

On February 18th, 2020, Twitter user @DJHeatDC^[4] posted screenshots of Twista and Mase's comments on the festival lineup saying, "So far Twista and Mase have said that they’re not a part of this festival" (Shown below, left). The tweet garnered over 1,200 likes and 830 retweets in two days. That same day, Twitter user @5050RecordLabel^[5] tweeted, "WARNING PLEASE SPREAD THIS MESSAGE!! The Lovers and Friends Festival Lineup is a fake.. LiL Kim, Mase , Thugger , Twista and more are calling the promotion a fraud, if you bought tickets make sure you get a refund" (shown below, right). The tweet received 50 likes in two days.

On February 18th, Twitter user @karimemend^[6] shared a video of Snoop Dogg^[7] addressing the festival with the caption, "hi!! for everyone who thinks the LOVERS AND FRIENDS FEST is fake.. here’s a vid from snoop ☝🏼☝🏼" (shown below). The video which features the rapper asking Lil Kim to contact him about the festival gained over 330 likes in two days.

On February 18th, @gingernspicee^[3] tweeted, "IS THIS LOVERS & FRIENDS FESTIVAL REAL OR NAH? cause i’m not tryna be caught up in the second Fyre Festival documentary" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 1,900 likes and 690 retweets in two days. Lil Kim^[8] then confirmed that she would be there on her Instagram account. Twitter user @VIBEwithGlwa^[9] shared a screenshot of Twista's comment confirming his attendance (shown below, right). Complex,^[10] Buzzfeed^[11] and The Root^[12] all published articles about the lineup confusion.
