About
Far Cry New Dawn "Release Me" is a scene from the 2019 first-person shooter video game Far Cry New Dawn in which the villain Joseph Seed shouts, "Release me!" The clip and dialogue became a viral TikTok soundbite and meme in June 2023 as users mainly added humorous videos and lip-syncs to the characters' "release me" scream.
Origin
On February 15th, 2019, the Far Cry New Dawn game was released worldwide for the PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One. In a particular scene, the game's villain, Joseph Seed, appears on his knees shouting, "Release me. Release me."
The moment was posted on TikTok[1] (seen below) by user @darrthsentry59 on June 29th, 2023, amassing more than 1 million plays, 62,000 likes and 750 comments in two years.

The Far Cry New Dawn "Release Me" scene gained viral usage as a soundbite on TikTok over the next few years as users added the scream alongside comedic videos or lip dubbing the sound while adding overlay texts about being forced to do something.
For instance, on May 6th, 2025, TikTok[2] user @koalalover800 added the release me sound to a video of a kitty trying to get out of a cage (seen below). The post amassed over 9 million plays and 2.9 million likes in five days.

On April 26th, 2025, TikTok[3] @camfant lip-dubbed the sound, adding the text, "how it feels to think a celebrity is ugly but you can't say anything 'cause half the population are fans." The video (seen below) received more than 7 million plays and 1.3 million likes in a month.
