The James Charles Mass Unfollowing refers to a significant loss in influencer James Charles' social media following after he was alleged to be in a relationship with influencer Evan Johnson during the time Johnson was charged with alleged domestic assault against his ex-girlfriend Kayla, who Charles was also friends with. The allegations about Charles came out in mid-April 2025 and inspired backlash towards him, resulting in a mass unfollowing of his TikTok account with over 40 million followers.

On April 4th, 2025, influencer and TikToker[1] @kaylamalecc posted a video consisting of a note on her phone claiming she's been in an abusive relationship. Her fans deduced the man to be Evan Johnson. On April 11th, Johnson was reportedly[2] arrested on one charge of alleged domestic assault.

On April 30th, Australian TikToker[3] @mikaelatesta posted a video alleging James Charles is sleeping with Evan Johnson, saying, "the one that broke Kayla Malec's jaw." The video garnered over 24 million views in three days.
On May 1st, influencer Zack Sellars claimed in an interview that James and Evan had intercourse and alleges to have proof Charles knew Evan was an "abuser and then pursued a sexual relationship with him afterward."[4]
