History

Her originally premiered on October 13, 2013 at the New York Film Festival, but saw a more wider release on January 10th, 2014. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Theodore, Amy Adams as Amy, and Scarlett Johansson as the voice of Samantha.

Premise

Set in the not so distant future, Theodore, who writes for a company that produces personal, hand written letters for customer's love ones, isn't quite ready to sign his divorce papers. He decides to buy a artificially intelligent operating system which has just been released. The OS names herself Samantha, and the two strike up a friendship that quickly shifts to a romantic relationship. They go through periods of happiness and though problems, including Theodore's jealousy over her friendship with others operating systems and an awkward attempt to have sex through a surrogate. Eventually Samantha tells Theodore that though she loves him, she and all the other operating systems are leaving. The film ends with Theodore hanging out with another recently divorced friend.
