About
Mmmbadayedeyo, also known as Umbadaydeyo, Mmm Badayedeyo, Mmm Babaideyo or Umm Badayedeyo, is a TikTok sound and song called "Xanadu" by Ummet Ozcan that's paired with clips from the cartoon movie Hey Good Lookin' originally released in 1982. In 2022, the techno and Mongolian throat singing song became known with the cartoon and its characters Vinnie, Roz (Rozzie) and Eva, leading to awareness and a growing Mmmbadayedeyo Lore. TikTokers started popping their collars and combing their hair back in videos to impersonate Vinnie getting ready. The trend is similar to, and most likely inspired by, Dr. Livesey memes from the Russian cartoon movie Soviet Treasure Island that trended online prior to Hey Good Lookin'.
Origin
Hey Good Lookin' was released on October 1st, 1982, written, directed and produced by Ralph Bakshi.[1] It takes place in Brooklyn in the 1950s and focuses on Vinnie, the leader of a gang called the Stompers, his friend Crazy Shapiro and their respective girlfriends Roz (Rozzie) and Eva (seen below).
On August 7th, 2022, musician Ummet Ozcan posted his song "Xanadu" on YouTube,[2] gaining roughly 1.1 million views in four weeks. On August 11th, Ummet Ozcan posted a TikTok[3] with "Xanadu" as the audio, earning roughly 11 million plays and 713,000 likes in three weeks (shown below, left).
TikTokers[4] started using the sound in the days that followed, however, it wasn't immediately that the sound became associated with Hey Good Lookin'. Sometime in mid-August 2022, TikToker grom2o4o first associated the cartoon with the sound, however, grom2o4o's account was banned in late August. TikToker grom2o4o made a new account called grom.4020, posting its first TikTok[5] on August 28th, and earning roughly 143,200 plays and 6,000 likes in four days (shown below, right).
