What Is 'Latinas For Mangione?' Number 16 On Luigi Mangione's Alleged '27 Things l'm Grateful For' List Explained

Luigi Mangione, the suspected assassin of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, allegedly just released a "27 things I'm grateful for" list, which notably included "Latinas for Mangione" (although "Latinas for Luigi" arguably rolls off the tongue better), as well as "memes."
The specific bullet point about Latinas, among a list of other praises, has sparked more memes than the list's other items. The news went viral on Twitter / X on Tuesday, and that's where most of the "Latinas for Mangione" jokes are coming from.
But why is "Latinas for Mangione" sparking so many memes? What is "Latinas for Mangione" anyway? Let's explain.

What Is 'Latinas For Mangione?'
"Latinas for Mangione" seemingly refers to an Instagram page of the same name, @latinasformangione, which began posting shortly after the suspect was taken into custody.
The account has gone viral on several occasions, earning cross-platform reposts on X, where some are fascinated by the admin. Whoever they are, they seem to be in love with Mangione.

It's unclear how Mangione knows about the page, or if it's even what he's talking about — he could be talking more broadly about any Latina or Latino person who supports him, given the extra attention that the diaspora is receiving in America amid the ongoing anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles.
However, Mangione has already expressed appreciation for the memes and fangirling about him, although he would appreciate it if they sent no more than five photos at a time.

What Is Luigi Mangione's '27 Things I'm Grateful For' List?
On Tuesday, TMZ reported on a document from Luigi Mangione. It was a list he wrote in honor of turning 27 on May 6th. He wrote, "To mark the occasion, I took some time to reflect on 27 things I'm grateful for."

Popular X accounts like @PopCrave and @LuigiCaseFiles shared the list with their audiences. The latter, for example, focused on bullet point number 13, in which Mangione thanked "the some 30,000 individuals around the globe who have come together to donate over $1,000,000 to my legal fund."
Number six on the list also stood out, particularly to us as a meme site, with Mangione noting, "Memes. As one of my wisest correspondents put it: 'Laughter is louder than logic and makes a lot more sense.'"
However, others like X user @doubtpointv2 noticed bullet point number 16, which simply read in double-quotes, "Latinas for Mangione." The discovery prompted viral fanfare and hilarity.

Despite TMZ's reporting, skepticism is following the Mangione letter. Outlets like Complex have since noted that Mangione's legal team issued a warning on their website about fake letters generated with AI circulating online.
The legal team has stated on its website that they've identified only one AI-generated letter so far, but several, good ol' fashioned forged letters have been discovered by them too.
So, it's unclear if Mangione is really grateful for Latinas for Mangione, but TMZ has not edited its original article as of writing. They might know something that they're withholding, or one of their editors is a secret admin of Latinas for Mangione (just kidding).
Why Has 'Latinas For Mangione' Become A Meme?
Looking back at internet history, there have been countless meme trends that hype up Latina women. From typing "Latinas 😍😍" with two heart-eyed emojis to the hedgehog Shadow loving them, Latina women are viewed by many with high regard online.
So when people read that Mangione was allegedly grateful for Latinas, their minds instantly associated that with a love for the women.
