Hoody is a song and viral video created by American music artist and animator, Devin Millar in 2021 as an animated music video. The song is one of his most known songs due to it’s catchiness, very good animation like all of his music videos, and it’s message to end racism. The music video for this song is also known for a particular moment where a someone from the crowd calls Jack a "Redroser" which is also a meme that arose from its popularity. The song has been memed, remixed, and parodied numerous times.

Origin

The music video and it’s official release on all the streaming services were released in March 2022. When the music video was uploaded onto the Devin Millar YouTube channel at that time, it quickly got a lot to attention.

The music video received over 100,000 views as of 2024. For that reason, it is considered a sleeper hit.

Spread

After it’s resurgence, reaction videos, memes, remixes and mashups started appearing all over YouTube from time to time.

History

The most notable aspect of the song is that not only does it have an anti-gang violence message, but Devin also uses the N-word in a very liberal fashion in the same way it is used by African-American people in in hip-hop. [1] Devin Millar is known for defying social norms, and trying to end double standards that infest society. In this case, he is trying to end the double standard regarding the N-word and who is allowed to say it. Therefore he created this song as an attempt to remove the power from the word. This song is the most notable from the rest of his music and has been quite successful.

Various Examples

Redroser Guy

One most known part of the video is at the beginning, a gangster jeering at Jack saying "Ay ain't you gonna play any song for us, Redroser?" And then Jack laughed at his comment before beginning to sing. This particular moment from the music video has become popular on it's own.
