I Love China or #ILoveChina is a hashtag used on TikTok ironically to increase the TikToker's chances of being on the "For You page" or avoid getting shadow-banned. The videos, which often use the song Xue Hua Piao Piao or China's National Anthem, express admiration for the Chinese government and President Xi Jinping in reference to the platform being owned by Chinese company Bytedance.

Origin

On April 7th, 2020, TikToker msfebreezec00chie uploaded the first known use of the hashtag in a video using China's National Anthem and explaining that she was shadowbanned (shown below). The video garnered over 33,800 likes in three months.

On April 9th, 2020, TikToker puckbunny69xd uploaded another "I Love China Video" captioned, "please get me un shadow banned, i’ve also been banned from the app multiple times for NO reason, love u Xi Jinping, xoxo -jess" (shown below, left). The video gained over 188,600 likes in three months. On April 20th, raymondmassenburg used the hashtag and anthem to get on the "For You" page (shown below, center). The video accumulated over 13,500 likes in three months. On May 27th, TikToker coochiesoup666 uploaded an ironic deep-fried "I Love China" video that received over 11,500 likes in two months (show below, right). StayHipp[1] published an article on the trend.
