About

In a Heartbeat is an animated short film created by Beth David and Esteban Bravo, following the story of a young boy and his crush on a popular boy from his school. Following the film's release onto YouTube in August 2017, the film received widespread acclaim for it's representation of a young gay romance, as well as spawning a notable fan following on social media.

History

In A Heartbeat first began as a Kickstarter campaign by then-Ringling College of Art and Design students Esteban Bravo and Beth David, launching on November 15th, 2016.[1] The project went on to successfully reach it's initial goal of $3,000 within the first 3 hours of the campaign,[2] eventually gaining $14,191 by the campaign's end. The short was eventually released onto YouTube on July 31st, 2017 via the film's official YouTube channel[3] (shown below), and quickly went viral, garnering over 20 million views and 1 million likes within a week.



Online Relevance

After the short film's launch, it began to gain a notable fan following on social media, with the the story being picked up by a number of different news sites, including The Guardian,[4] The Independent,[5] ABC News[6] and Queerty.[7] On August 4th, YouTuber FineBrosEntertainment [8] uploaded an episode of the "Elders React" series focused on the film (shown below, left), going on to receive over 2 million views within 2 days or uploading. As well as this, YouTuber Joey Graceffa[9] uploaded his own reaction to the film on the same day, in which he watches the film alongside his boyfriend (shown below, right), garnering over 800,000 views.
