Mr. Prime Minister? Mr. Busy Prime Minister? is a catchphrase taken from a viral video featuring the Chief Minister of the state of West Bengal in India. In the video, which was shared in 2021, C.M. Mamata Banerjee can be heard saying the lines, "Mr. Prime Minister? Mr. busy Prime Minister? Mr. mann-ki-baat Prime Minister?" while addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The video was shared to TikTok in 2023, where it soon became a lip-sync trend popularized among Western audiences.
Origin
On May 31st, 2021, Twitter[1] user @sakshijoshii posted a video of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee speaking with the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. In the clip, C.M. Banerjee can be heard saying, "Mr. Prime Minister? Mr. Busy Prime Minister? Mr. Mann-ki-baat Prime Minister?" The phrase "mann-ki-baat" is a reference to a monthly radio program hosted by Narendra Modi. The tweet gathered over 14,000 likes in two years (seen below).
