Pake Nanya (Eng. "Isn't that obvious") refers to an image of a man with one hand holding his head and text saying "pake nanya" next to the crying laughing emoji. The image has been used as a reaction image to obvious questions and the image itself has been used as an exploitable.
Origin
On July 22nd, 2022, Instagram[1] user @officialmarshallprice uploaded a photo of a man wearing underpants and using one hand to hold his head while smirking. The post received more than 23,000 likes in one year (shown below, left). Prior to January 2023, an unknown user uploaded @officialmarshallprice's photo with text reading Pake Nanya with the crying laughing emoji (shown below, right).
Spread
Starting in February 2023, the image became popular among Indonesian speakers, who used it as a reaction when they are asked a question with an obvious answer. For example, on February 13th, 2023, Facebook[2] page "Kamen Raida Madiun Selatan β Kramas" uploaded an image imagining someone asking "are there any main characters who want to destroy the world?" using @officialmarshallprice's photo to depict the character Tsukasa Kadoya from Kamen Rider Decade saying Pake Nanya. The post received more than 9,500 reactions and 856 shares in two weeks (shown below, left). On the next day, Facebook[3] page "Perkumpulan Orang Santai" uploaded an image depicting the character Bandung Bondowoso from an Indonesian folklore tale, receiving more than 9,000 reactions and 1,000 shares in two weeks (shown below, right).
On February 18th, 2023, Twitter[4] user @kairiillust uploaded fan art of Hololive virtual YouTuber Kobo Kanaeru by using @officialmarshallprice's photo as a reference. The tweet received more than 3,800 likes and 330 retweets in one week (shown below, left). The same day, Kobo's official Twitter[5] used the fan art as her reaction to @Sasa_Melezatkan's tweet. The tweet received more than 7,900 likes and 396 retweets in one week. On February 21st, 2023, the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang official Facebook[6] page uploaded user @mraafi_'s art, receiving more than 10,000 reactions and 191 shares in one week (shown below, right).
