About

Justin Wong, or known as "JWong", is an American professional gamer and content creator specializing in fighting games notably Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom. JWong is known for having the most EVO titles with nine tournaments in total. JWong is considered the best Marvel vs. Capcom 2 player of all time.

EVO Moment #37

EVO Moment #37 refers to a historic match known in the fighting game community and solidified itself not only as a cornerstone of fighting game history but also was a monumental breakthrough of fighting games in popular culture. [37] EVO Moment #37 is also known as the "Daigo Parry".

To this day, EVO Moment #37 is mentioned in all forms of media in social media. And to Justing Wong, in a light-hearted way, every mention of EVO Moment #37 is a walking nightmare. [38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45]

On February 6, 2024, The Evo 2024 Announcment Show revealed that the game Street Fighter 3: Third Strike was confirmed for tournament play for Evo 2024. To promote the event, a short skit was made featuring JWong and Daigo. JWong, at a Chipotle Mexican Grill location, asks Daigo over the phone if he wants extra guacamole on his order, to which Daigo responds that he can "handle something with a little more kick." Evo Moment #37 plays, followed by JWong leaving the restaurant unamused by the remark. [52]

Jwong vs Asianlamb

9 years ago, Justin Wong played against an 8 year old player Asianlamb online in the video game Mortal Kombat X. In this particular match, JWong utilizes projectile spams against asianlamb, which the latter responds with cries of unfairness such as "You're using a cheap move". JWong responds to the crying with memorable quotes "WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD", "YOU GONNA LEARN TODAY" "YOU GONNA LEARN"

The Wong Factor

From the Fighting Game Glossary:

"A phenomenon that occasionally happens to opponents of legendary fighting game player Justin Wong in big tournament matches. They'll play well for most of the match, and then right when they need to solidify their win, they'll just crumble in the heat of the moment, usually by dropping an easy combo or letting Justin wrestle momentum back for a huge comeback.

Whether it's tournament nerves or just Justin's ability to put a vice-like grip on his opponent's emotions through his gameplay, it seems like many people just can't keep it together when it matters most. Perhaps the original Wong Factor moment was this legendary comeback against IFCYipes at the EVO 2007 Marvel vs. Capcom 2 tournament."[6]

Unrequited Heart Pose

The Unrequited Heart Pose refers to a photo taken between two people. The trend is also known as the "heart thumb pose". In a heart pose photo, two people have to make a curved hand gesture to make two halves of a heart into one. However, while one person makes up half a heart gesture, the other person instead makes a thumbs up gesture. The Unrequited Heart Pose implies that the love is one sided and the other person does not acknowledge the other person's love for them. This is also known as the "friend zone". [53]

This trend was popularized by Twitter user @iamrosema. On July 16, 2017, iamrosema took a picture with Jwong with the heart thumb pose quoting "Friend zone @Jwonggg". This tweet received 3.2k likes. [48][49][50]

This trend resurfaced at EVO Japan 2024 with fans asking JWong for those similar pictures. JWong claims that he has received around 5000 requests to do the pictures. [46][47][51]

Wrath of the Wazzler

On September 12, 2024, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics was released on Playstation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Considered to be the best Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (MVC2) player of all time, Wong was recognized as a formidable player online. Wong would name himself "Wazzler" and proceed to play ranked games. Wong managed to hit the #1 leaderboard on Playstation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch versions of the game. [27][28][29]

Community responses were lauding Wong's skill but also identifying as a boogeyman of playing online. [32][33][34][35][36]

Players were quick to review the game based on their experience playing against JWong [31], such as

“Ran into someone online named Wazzler. The Iron Man combo he did to me gave me enough time to go get dinner started for the family. 10/10.” For reference, The Wazzler is Justin Wong.

“Wazzler and Imagine players made online matches unplayable,” claimed another Steam user.

“Imagine getting off work excited to unwind by playing some old childhood classics. Hopping online for some good casual fun and the first opponent you run into is the Justin Wong,” said another."

"Got back from a long exhausting day of work, decided to give this game a look. Lo and behold, some sweat named Wazzler popped out, heard him yelling on the mic, "putting the FUN in REFUND". Ruined my night, will be REFUNDING the game!!" [20][21][22][23][24][25][26]
