Salem is a name of a cat which looks like Adolf Hitler and one of acknowledged Kitler cat that gained popular after one of his video shown the cat accidentally raised his paw as if he's doing the "Sieg Heil" pose.

Origin

On January 7th, 2022, Instagram^[1] user @grumpysalem uploaded first photo of the cat. The post received 220 likes in two years (shown below).

Spread

On August 3rd, 2022, the same Instagram^[2] user uploaded video of the cat dancing in front of camera with his owner, then in the last second, the cat's paw accidentally raised, later she stopped the video. The post received more than 96,000 likes in 18 months (shown below, left). On August 31st, 2022, @grumpysalem^[3] uploaded another video which showing Salem's favorite collars. In the video, Salem raised his paw again two times. The video received more than 64,900 likes in 18 months (shown below, right).

The Salem's video gained popular with edits related to Hitler references. For example on November 14th, 2022, YouTube^[4] user dont care uploaded an edit by adding song "Erika" by Herms Niel. The video received more than 238,000 views in one year (shown below, left). On March 31st, 2023, TikTok^[5] user uploaded cat compilation video which one of them is Salem. The video received more than 101,000 views in one year (shown below, right).
