About
Sesbian Lex is a spoonerism for "lesbian sex" that has been used as algorithmically friendly slang online in much the same way as the similar spoonerism Say Gex. It is particularly prevalent in anime meme communities regarding Yuri ships and has become a prominent meme in the Signalis community.
Origin
The earliest known appearance of "Sesbian Lex" online was posted on June 17th, 2023, on Imgflip[1] by user Anatidaddy, though the post gained little spread (shown below).
On August 23rd, 2023, user Impossible-Let-3962 posted a Someone's Daughter meme to /r/yurimemes[2] titled "Sesbian Lex," gaining over 2,000 points in six months (shown below).
Spread
Over the latter half of 2023, the term began growing popular in anime and yuri communities. On September 23rd, 2023, Redditor TheStickyStudio posted a meme with the term in /r/kessokuband,[3] gaining over 130 points in five months (shown below, left). On October 2nd, a post with the phrase in the title was posted to /r/Okaybuddytrailblazer[4] by March7thHSR_, gaining over 480 points in four months (shown below, right).
The phrase grew particularly popular among the Signalis fandom. For example, on December 31st, 2023, Redditor Hitman-1_WSO posted a meme with the phrase in the game's subreddit,[5] gaining over 1,300 points in one month (shown below).
On January 10th, 2024, YouTuber VoiceQuills posted a Signalis parody with the title "Sesbian Lex," gaining over 300,000 views in one month (shown below).
