About

The SoulCalibur or Soul series (ソウルシリーズ) is a franchise of fighting games weapon-based, developed by Project Soul and Published by Namco Bandai Games.
The story centers on a powerful and evil sword called Soul Edge ,a sword that, after years of bloodshed and hatred, gained a soul of its own and another Sword, called Soul Calibur has been designed to combat against it.

History

The first game of the series was released on December of 1995 as an arcade game with the name of Soul Edge.[1][2] A new version of the game would be release for the Playstation in December of 1996 and renamed Soul Blade (shown below, left). On 1998 the second game of the series was released for the arcades,and was ported to the Dreamcast in 1999 the franchise would be known later with the name SoulCalibur (shown below, right).

On 2002 SoulCalibur II was published by Namco for the arcades and ported to the PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Xbox in 2003 (shown below, left). On 2005 SoulCalibur III was launched for the PlayStation 2 and a version for the arcade called SoulCalibur III: Arcade Edition, was released in 2006 (shown below, right).



On the year 2008 the fifth game of the series SoulCalibur IV was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (shown below, left). On the year 2012 Namco Bandai Games released The sixth game of the franchise, SoulCalibur V for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (shown below, right).

Guest characters

One of the most popular features of the series is the inclusion of guest characters from film, comics or other video games franchises. Notable guest characters to appear in the SoulCalibur series include such as Link from The Legend of Zelda, Kratos from God of War, Spawn from a Comic Book series, Ezio Auditore from Assassin's Creed, and Yoda, Darth Vader and The Apprentice from Star Wars.

Online, the game has a large following. Its Facebook page[3] has over 353,000 likes. The game's Twitter account[4] has over 6,300 followers. Its dedicated subreddit has over 1,500 followers.[5] There are over 41,000 artworks under the #SoulCalibur tag on DeviantArt[6] (examples shown below).
