The Ki Sisters is a manhwa (Korean comic) created by 범배 or bumbae and published on Webtoons. The story follows four enigmatic sisters who were raised in isolation in a mysterious mansion near Seoul's Cheonggyecheon Stream. The comic gained traction in late November 2024, after the Queen Never Cry panel from a then-unreleased chapter in the manhwa became a viral meme. The comic has also been described as Baki for women.

History

The Korean webcomic The Ki Sisters was created by @bumbae^[7][8] and published on Webtoons on April 23rd, 2024. The comic was published in English on August 26th, 2024.^[1] The first chapter of the webcomic introduced the four Ki sisters, Jang-nyeo, Sal-gyo, Jae-rim, and the youngest, Jenny. The four dark-haired and pale-skinned sisters were described as having been raised in isolation, giving them a menacing and haughty aura.

Jenny, however, is described as a lover of romance novels set on finding love. The first chapter deals with her attempts to find a boyfriend.

The characters Queen Serina and Queen Laura (sometimes called Lola) are introduced in later chapters of the webtoon. The Queens are depicted as tall, modelesque blondes with striking angular features. A panel from the yet-untranslated Chapter 34 shows Queen Serina whispering Queen Never Cry into the ear of a newborn Queen Laura became a viral meme in November 2024.

Online Presence

The manhwa was discussed on Reddit's^[2] /r/webtoons the week it was translated to English, with /u/MelissaWebb writing, "Is anyone else reading this webtoon?" and discussing how unexpectedly funny they found it. The post gathered over 200 points in three months.

On September 19th, 2024, Redditor^[3] /u/sanskriti8448 posted a series of panels where the Ki Sisters encounter their father to /r/manhwa, gathering over 100 points in two months.

On November 23rd, X^[6] user @Oshawhat3 shared a panel from the meme, seemingly showing one of the Ki sisters reacting to lyrics from WAP, gathering over 90,000 likes in four days.

On November 24th, 2024, the creator of The Ki Sisters quoted a viral X^[4] post about the meme, clarifying that the panel is from a yet-untranslated chapter of the manhwa, and linking to the official Webtoons site. The post gathered over 99,000 likes in three days.

Several X^[5] users began sharing panels from the manhwa following the popularity of the Queen Never Cry meme, including @yilk_ii0 who wrote, "EL PERRO????" on November 26th and gathered over 190,000 likes in two days.
