About

The Noid is a character first used in an ad campaign for Domino's Pizza in the late 1980's. The Noid would later develop a massive fan following online, which includes several works of fanart and even videogame appearances.

Origin

The Noid was originally created by Group 243, which was an advertising agency hired by Domino's Pizza for their "30 minutes or less" ad campaign.[1] Group 243 then hired professional Claymation artist Will Vinton[2] to create clay models for The Noid and animate the commercials. The first commercials started airing in 1986 (shown below).

Videogames

Videogames featuring The Noid first appeared in 1989 with the release of Avoid The Noid for MS-DOS and Commodore 64 computer systems (shown below, left) in which you play as a Domino's pizza delivery driver and try dodge several Noids in order to deliver a pizza to a customer at the top floor of the building. Another game, which starred The Noid as the main character, released on NES in 1990 and was titled Yo! Noid.[3] The game was a reskin of Capcom's Kamen no Ninja: Hanamaru, and replaced the game's end of stage boss fights with pizza-eating contests. Yo! Noid was covered by JonTron on December 7th, 2015, in the video titled Food Games (PART 2) (shown below, right). A fan sequel to Yo! Noid, which is titled Yo! Noid 2: Enter the Void,[4] was released on PC on August 1st, 2017.

The Noid was also featured in the pinball table Domino's Spectacular Pinball Adventure, which released on July 1st, 2016.[5]
