A tool is a device meant to make a job easier.
Origin
Since pre-antiquity, tools have been made and improved on. It is impossible to tell when tools were first used, but all evidence points to tools being created before the advent of homo sapiens, since other animals use tools.[1]
Spread and Evolution
The desire to improve one's life is automatic, however the knowledge of tools is not. Whenever a new tool is invented that dramatically changes the world, it spreads like wildfire to all humans in sight. The creation of new tools makes it easier to develop more advanced tools, creating an infinite loop of technological advancement. It is because we have what has been made before us to be able to continue to advance, as has been described in the metaphor "standing on the shoulders of giants" first said by Bernard of Chartres.
