'Y Botter' started on an online game(at around 2007), Disney's Toontown Online(I'm sure many of you have seen the television ads.), when a young child on the game mangled the spelling of the words 'why bother'. The poor child's account got deleted because he was suspected of using a bot program to train and care for Toontown Online's version of pets, Doodles. It is said that he was saying 'y botter' because he was, and soon to be for a good reason, quitting the game. It is not commonly heard around the interwebs, but more or less in the game where it started.

I admit, (not knowing it was a small kids game), I used to play Toontown, and have heard of this little 'fad' on the game. It slowly became more popular, and I have no idea whether or not it is still used today, nor whether it has enough popularity to become a meme.
