More specifically, a TMZ report states that she is dating Ethan Slater, her co-star in the upcoming film adaptation of the Wicked musical.

Slater is a theater veteran best known for originating the role of SpongeBob SquarePants in SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical!

Both Grande and Slater are in the process of separating from previous marriages, according to the report — Grande from Dalton Gomez, Slater from Lillie Jay.

While it's only slightly misleading to say Ariana Grande is dating SpongeBob, the phrase is close enough to what TMZ's report states that it began rattling around Twitter's collective brain like an earworm, as people were stunned at the news.

Ariana has long been the target of mild jokes and memes about how beautiful women like silly little guys after her attention-grabbing relationship with Pete Davidson, and perhaps there is truly no sillier little guy than SpongeBob SquarePants.
