The world is a tough place to be right now. Unfortunately, the only place people can turn to for comfort is television, and what do they want? More shows about a dystopian hellscape.
Among those types of shows, Black Mirror has one of the most loyal fanbases. Its takes on modern life are both chilling and incredibly meme-able, like have you ever wondered: "wot if ya mum ran on batteries?"
But as the real world descended into an episode of Black Mirror of its own, many wondered when the show, which last aired summer 2019, would return. In a recent interview with Radio Times, series creator Charlie Brooker said the show's on sleep mode for the time being.
"At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart," said Brooker. "So I’m not working away on any of those [Black Mirror episodes]. I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh."
The internet, in a mix of understanding and disappointment, agrees with Brooker. Among World War III, coronavirus and Murder Hornets, there's just not much room for an iPhone app that kills you and takes your identity.
