Pour One Out For The Nintendo 3DS, Which Is Now Discontinued

The Nintendo 3DS is no more. It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet its maker in the box of old consoles in the basement.
Yes, Nintendo celebrated the tenth birthday of the 3DS by discontinuing the beloved console. A tweet by a Japanese Twitter user broke the news on an unsuspecting public two days ago. Per Google translate, their tweet reported, "The end of production of all 3ds series has been announced from the Nintendo official website. In addition, the page of New2dsLL has been deleted from the official website in North America."
"Thank you for your hardwork," the translation sadly concludes.

Nintendo has since scrubbed any mention of the 3DS from its website, aside from support links.
The 3DS hit at a strange time for Nintendo, which was only a year or two from releasing the even more baffling failure, the Wii U. Anchored by poor sales and very few games, the 3DS eventually picked up a following among Nintendo purists. Over time, the system sold more than 380 million games worldwide and cemented Nintendo as the leader in handheld gaming. That came a price for the 3DS, which walked so the Switch could fly.
Online, fans are eulogizing this misunderstood gem.

The 3DS has been discontinued.
All 3DS models have been listed as "out of production" on https://t.co/yR3GOu9giw and Nintendo's European sites. In addition, the 3DS is no longer featured on https://t.co/iKIcoGeGsX.

could we get a port of one of the best games for 3ds 🥺 pic.twitter.com/oH1VZAh2WB— Luc | Spin Propaganda (@Simp4Pearl) September 17, 2020
So the 3DS has been official discontinued, it had a really long life with an insane amount of quality games.
My only question now is if there's a new "Double Screen" handheld in development or if this is the end of an era. The extra screen offered a lot of unique oppunitities. pic.twitter.com/7gqLaPOxBy— StupidMarioBros1Fan (@StupidMarioFan1) September 17, 2020
So we say so long to the 3DS. You were never appreciated in your time. We look forward to pulling you out of that box in the basement, dusting you off and giving The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds another spin in a few years.
