Grimes, the Canadian pop star and mother of several of Elon Musk's children, shared a New Year's Eve post to X / Twitter about her pride in "white culture" that has since generated a prominent amount of controversy and discourse over the last two days.

In the post and follow-ups to it, Grimes framed her beliefs in terms of having pride in all humans, including white people, and understanding that both greatness and violence have been committed by people throughout human history.

In her replies, however, many found her understanding of the history of race to be inaccurate, and her division of humans into different "cultures" based on race to be questionable. The phrase "proud of white culture" also struck critics of the post as bad and bizarre.

Some fans told Grimes to delete the post (to no avail), while others like political commentator Ian Miles Cheong chimed in to argue for keeping it up.

Grimes, who is currently in a custody battle with her ex Elon Musk, was also accused by others during the discussion of following him into increasingly right-wing territory.

Some posters even went so far as to argue that Musk somehow "redpilled" Grimes.

On TikTok and elsewhere online as the contentious post spread, posters advocated for "isolating" Grimes and approaching her with more caution, since the remarks she raised were perceived by many as white supremacist talking points.

Others online wondered why she made the post in the first place and brought up the topic to begin with.

tonedeaf comment but far from a "white supremacist talking point". did they actually read the tweet? it's three sentences in a single paragraph- I'm sure even the most tiktok addled brain can hold focus long enough to wade through that. Her point is that people from all different races have accomplished amazing things and that we should focus on our commonalities rather than our differences. Is the mention of pride in white culture something that people take issue with? Because there are white cultures and there are certainly things about those cultures to be proud of. What's the issue here?
