Twitter's Year End Stats: Chadwick Boseman, Barack Obama, BTS And *Checks Notes* Andy Milonakis Take Top Spots

The year's tragedies and glimpses of hope and humor were captured in 280 characters, according to Twitter's year-end stats of the most liked, retweeted and discussed posts of the year. Heartbreak, with a dash of hope and levity, made up the social media site's rankings, with the deaths of cultural icons Chadwick Boseman and Kobe Bryant, and a low-key performance by BTS' Jungkook taking the top spots.
The tweet announcing Boseman's death is this year's most liked and retweeted post. Both an announcement of his death and the revelation that Boseman suffered from colon cancer since 2016 inspired more than 7.5 million likes and 3 million retweets in less than six months.

Behind Boseman on the most liked list is more grief, a post from President Barack Obama about the shocking death of Kobe Bryant, who along with his daughter and several others were killed in a helicopter accident outside of Los Angeles. President Obama's tweet received more than 3.9 million likes and 663,000 retweets in less than one year.
Kobe was a legend on the court and just getting started in what would have been just as meaningful a second act. To lose Gianna is even more heartbreaking to us as parents. Michelle and I send love and prayers to Vanessa and the entire Bryant family on an unthinkable day.

The second most retweeted post is a touch more optimistic, depending on your feelings about BTS. On May 2nd, the group tweeted a video of group member Jungkook singing the song "Never Not." The simple video is the BTS army flexing its muscle, bringing in more than 35 million views, 3 million likes and 1.6 million retweets.

Appearing on both lists is Andy Milonakis, who on May 30th, 2020, just one week after the beginning of the George Floyd protests tweeted, "Congratulations to the Astronauts that left Earth today. Good choice." The post received more than 3.7 million likes and 797,000 retweets. His tweet ranked number five in retweets and number three in likes.
