French Christian here. Yep Charlie Hebdo is well-known in France for being really… not nice about religion (even if, obviously, they didn't deserve theirs horribles deaths).
The cartoonist is just saying that he doesn't want sympathy coming from religion. He doesn't want anything to do with religion, even if it's a good thing. It's sad but it the way "the publication describes itself".
