About

AI Action Figures, also known as AI-Generated Toy Figurines, refers to a trend of using artificial intelligence image generators, specifically GPT-4o, to generate realistic-looking boxes or packages of action figures based on notable people, characters and yourself, often accompanied by various accessories. The trend was popularized on social media in early April 2025 around the time the Studio Ghibli AI trend went viral, with the release of OpenAI's 4o Image Generation tool accelerating the trend.

Origin

It is unclear who created the first AI-generated action figure, with one tutorial by ThirstyExplorersClub[1] on how to use AI to create action figures dating back to January 6th, 2024.

In late March 2025, following the March 25th, 2025, release of OpenAI's 4o Image Generation model,[2] generating realistic action figures based on well-known people was popularized on social media. The AI-generated figures were typically created based on celebrities, politicians, popular memes and other pop culture characters.

One of the earliest examples of this trend was posted by X[3] user @AIandDesign on March 27th, 2025, turning the Imagine AI Live founder into an action figure with "e/acc" (effective accelerationism) on his shirt, garnering over 10 likes in two weeks.

BIG BROTHER JANE e/acc STORE DBOS e/acc ...ALSO KNOWN AS 'STEVE METCALE, THE MASTERMIND BEHIND IMAGINE AI LIVE!' JOIN US IN LAS VEGAS!

Spread

The AI art action figure trend was further popularized throughout April 2025 on sites including X, Facebook and Reddit.

On March 29th, 2025, X[3] user @JBTVCommunity posted AI-generated figures of broadcaster and former rapper Joe Budden, garnering over 2,300 likes in two weeks.

On March 30th, X[4] user @cfryant posted an AI-generated video of someone looking at an action figure based on the character Mark (played by actor Adam Scott) from Severance, posting images of ther characters from the show as action figures in the comments, garnering over 2,900 likes in two weeks.

On April 9th, the Cursed AI Facebook[5] page posted an AI-generated action figure of police officer Megan Hall, garnering over 2,900 reactions and 300 shares in two days.
