Robotic prosthetics, one bad parent figure, similar weapons and fighting styles, and both are awesome characters. The Mercury and Yang parallels are slowly growing.

And do you guys think Yang might get a bit sympathetic to Mercury once she founds out how he lost his legs or his backstory?

Not sympathetic like "I forgive you", sympathetic like "I understand your pain and you have condolences, but I still have to kick your ass".
