31 May Why Zoos I'm usually not super vocal about the news, but if the recent Cincinnati zoo incident has you hashtagging "boycott the zoos" think you have an awfully s----- opinion. I don't have arguments in me about what went down, I just need to point out that zoos are a good thing for endangered species. Saying all zoos are bad disregards all the hard work and effort that has been done to preserve the animals. There are of course bad zoos. There are bad enclosures. There are bad keepers and bad incidents, but like most things this is not a black and white issue. If you're someone who can't sympathize with Sea World either, you have a s----- opinion too. The world is not a "good and evil" type of place. Like it or not we have a responsibility to these animals regardless if they are inherited captured whales or a dead gorilla corpse. Not all breeding programs succeed. Not all animals get to go back to the wild. And those that could are still going to be poached and killed or have their habitats destroyed. All I'm saying is to apply a gradient filter to your thoughts and avoid the bandwagon. Visit your zoos. Support them. Educate yourself You'll be glad you did!
