All that is known right now is that this feature appears ONLY after you've first fought and caught (?) a wild pokémon. Think of it like when you have only a pokemon's name in the pokedex but when you actually catch it you get its type, height, weight, footprint, etc.

Aside from that, this feature in my opinion should not bother any casual/veteran pokemon player, because A) a veteran pokemon player knows the type chart by heart and B) every wild pokémon for sun and moon has its typing and abilities announced officially long before the games are released, so is not like that's a surprise in-game.

This feature seems to exist to make learning type charts easier for new players, keeping in mind some of the type relationships are not intuitive (bug is strong against dark. Some kids will get it, some others won't; this feature would help those who won't). A bit hand-holdy, yes, but even if it could not be disabled in-game, it can always be ignored.
