I, for one, don't see it as a cheap-out scam. I see it as Japan's answer to Peter Molyneux

Inafune had dreams of a new Mega-franchise, his own version of the Mega Man brand but under his own complete control. Video games, spin-offs, anime adaptations, merchandise, the works. The problem is, he fired off all his dreams with no actual foundation. He sprawled out into stretch goals before the actual engine was done. He loaded up the anime promises before he had any actual capital -- both in terms of money and in terms of audiences wanting the characters.

The delays were inevitable, every video game has delays. But three delays were pushing it and the usual two-year wait for a kickstarter turned into three years, a veritable death knell in and of itself. The publicity could have recovered from that, were it not for the clash with Deep Silver. After the infamous "prom night" middle finger I get the feeling Inafune switched to humblebundle at he last minute, but obviously that failed, and now the game doesn't even work on the Wii U
