Or maybe there were never any actual villains. Just really flawed people making dumb mistakes and trying to rectify them in the end.

The "game" is the actual antagonist, the "game" is "programmed" to have the president of the literature club obtain self awareness, while also keeping the directive of her falling in love with MC-Kun (whoever the president is will fall for the actual player because they know MC-kun is an empty vessel for the players to project to), BUT the issue is that the "game" also assigns the literature club the role of a supporting character, not a female lead, so no matter how hard she tries she cannot have a normal ending where she ends up being the chosen girl (whenever Monika tries to initiate a normal route either the other character objects, or sometimes the game will straight up cut to black).This will always lead into existential horror as the president will always break the game to try to get a sort of ending for herself or destroy the game (her world) as she realizes the futility of her existence.
