It's funny, because prior to the creation of the Department of Transportation, Automakers did not really talk about safety of their products. Fatalities were often blamed on bad drivers, not car designs that prioritized aesthetic over human safety.

This now includes the Fatality Analysis Reporting System which easily allows for anyone looking at these accidents to gather years of data across the country. Due to a prioritization of safety, the odds of dying in a car crash have dropped by 80% since the 1960s.

Of course, with guns, Congress has passed laws making it Illegal for the ATF to create a searchable database of their records, and illegal to create a registry of gun owners as they have with cars.
