A sexy bland character can have porn made of them, and the person who makes the porn might have enough talent to give them some character through their porn. It may just be fetishistic furry fanfiction, but it'll still be something vaguely interesting being made from what was previously just a pair of hairy tits.
An unsexy bland character will just be forgotten, because while we say "If it exists, there is porn of it" we all know it's not true.
