It's mostly that some of the worst of the AAA publishers are trying to paint a fake narrative that "singleplayer is dead" to make multiplayer the only option for developers.

Because, of course, it's much easier to throw in their microtransactions and other such money-grubbing nonsense in a multiplayer game than it is a singleplayer one.
