The competitive metagame is a complete mess, this is necessary to balance it. They already had systems in place to balance the competitive scene, in XY and SM, Pokemon would have a mark signifying that they were obtained within gen 6/7. They could just expand upon that. They are improving the quality of the game, Quality> Quantity Judging from what we have seen, this is highly doubtful. 800+ Pokemon wasn't an issue when Sun and Moon released and it isn't an issue now. Even if they did magically improve the quality of the games, having every Pokemon is the most basic thing that makes Pokemon stand out from every other game. The sheer amount of Pokemon and consistently being able to have all of them in every game. Game Freak has already cut so much content over the years, when will it stop? There are too many resources to manage, Game Freak can't handle it. Then why don't they either hire new blood or outsource it like every other developer in charge of a (supposedly) AAA series does? You were never able to catch every Pokemon, why are you only complaining now?? While in games not every Pokemon was obtainable within that game, you were always able to simply transfer from other games. No one cares about [unpopular Pokemon] anyway, I think they're right in removing them. Not only is that extremely selfish but it's absolutely wrong. Every Pokemon is loved by someone, regardless of how YOU feel about them. Maybe they'll add it in a later update! Game Freak (specifically Masuda) has stated they are not intending to do any updates or DLC for the series at this time, and they have never done so before. I don't see the problem/I personally don't care. Then why are you even commenting on it?

In case you were holding out: hope, dashed. Speaking to Inside Gamer, Pokemon boss Junichi Masuda re-confirmed that yes, there are no plans to add the National Pokedex into Sword and Shield. Although there were some "maybes" thrown out since the news came back in June at E3, Game Freak is now sticking to their guns and eliminating the prospect altogether. Masuda states: "We now have no plans to make the Pokemon that are missing in the Galar Pokedex in- game available. That is an approach that we want to continue with Pokemon games in the future. Of course, up to now it has not been possible to encounter every Pokemon in every game, so people had to transfer it from old games via Pokemon Bank to the new game, for example."

Black and White did the fresh start thing, but guess what happens when you beat the game? You're allowed all Pokémon up to that point!
